Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
Recently, the Supreme Court of India ruled that the CBI can register a First Information Report (FIR) against a Central Government employee working in different states without obtaining consent from state governments.
- Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act, 1946 requires the CBI to obtain prior consent from the state government to investigate a case within the territorial jurisdiction unless directed by the judiciary or central government for special purposes.
