India’s first indigenously developed pollution control vessel- Samudra Pratap

Recently,  the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) launched its first indigenously built pollution control vessel- Samudra Pratap in Goa.


Key Highlights
  • It was built by the Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). 
  • It will help to check oil spillage in the sea coast of the country. 
  • It can recover oil at a rate of 300 tonnes/hour.
  • Storage Capacity: 300 tonnes or 1000 tonnes in inflatable barges.

  • ICG is a maritime law enforcement and search and rescue agency under the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Government of India. 
  • It has jurisdiction over territorial waters including its contiguous and economic exclusive zone (EEZ).
