Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) 

Recently, the Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched Earth Observation Satellite EOS-08 using SSLV-D3 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.  


Key Highlights
  • Earth Observation Satellites (EOS)  are designed to observe earth from orbit. 
  • It collects information about various activities on earth, both natural and artificial. 
 
Objectives
  1.  Designing and developing a microsatellite.
  2. Creating payload instruments compatible with the microsatellite bus.

 

About SSLV D3
  • It is designed to launch mini, micro and nano satellites. 
  • It is a 3 stage launch vehicle configured with 3 solid propulsion stages and liquid propulsion based Velocity Trimming Module (VTM) as a terminal stage.
  • It is capable of launching 500 kg satellites into a 500 km planer orbit.
  • It is the third developmental flight of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). 
  • Benefits:  Low-cost launch vehicles with short turnaround times and minimal infrastructural requirements.
