Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC)
India recently provided humanitarian aid to landslide-hit Papua New Guinea, showcasing the FIPIC partnership.

- FIPIC provides a platform to discuss and consult with each other on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
- Objective: To enhance India’s relations with the Pacific Island countries in various fields such as trade, climate change, disaster management, investment, healthcare, agriculture, renewable energy, tourism, and education.
About FIPIC
- It is a multilateral platform established by India to enhance cooperation with the Pacific Island countries.
- FIPIC members: India and 14 island countries – Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
- Even though these countries are small in land area and far from India, many have large exclusive economic zones (EEZs) that offer promising opportunities for cooperation.
- It is a testament to India’s strategic engagement with the Pacific Island countries, spread across the Pacific Ocean. These countries are very important from both an economic and geostrategic perspective.
- India unveiled the 12-Step Initiative at the third FIPIC Summit in Papua New Guinea.
FIPIC Summits
- 1st FIPIC summit was held in 2014 (Suva, Fiji).
- 2nd FIPIC summit was held in 2015 (Jaipur, India).
- 3rd FIPIC summit was held in 2023 (Papua New Guinea).
