Recently, India’s External Affairs Minister participated in the First ASEAN Future Forum 2024 held in Hanoi, Vietnam.
It is a platform for ASEAN and its partner countries to share new innovative ideas and policy recommendations.
It was proposed by Vietnam at the 43rd ASEAN Summit in 2023.
Theme: Toward fast and sustainable growth of a people-centred ASEAN Community.
Founding members: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
Current ASEAN members: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam.
To be a platform for open and constructive discussions about the future of ASEAN.
To focus on shaping a resilient, inclusive, and future-oriented ASEAN and its partner countries.
To promote sustainable growth, inclusivity, and self-reliance for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
To explore innovative & practical ideas in promoting peace, security, and development.
To promote intergovernmental cooperation and facilitate economic, political, security, military, educational, and sociocultural integration between its members and other countries in Asia.
Critical questions about ASEAN’s future relevance and centrality are addressed through this forum.
This involves effectively adapting to the changing regional and global environment while upholding core values and addressing the needs of its member states.
