Lithium deposits found
• The Central Government has confirmed the presence of 1600 tonnes of lithium deposits in Mandya district of Karnataka.
• The commercial exploitation for the deposits can start only after the technical, social and economic feasibility studies are done.
About Lithium
• Lithium is a critical part of emerging inventions.
• It is useful in the ceramics, telecommunications, glass and aerospace sectors.
• Other known applications of lithium include optical modules for cell phones, lithium-ion batteries, high-energy rocket propeller additives and lubricating grease.
